Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status with his folk-based pop songs many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. is a New Mexican born singer-songwriter who fell in adore with Colorado. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have attracted many people to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declares that John Denver is unlike any other artist who embodies Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever to be inducted. Many consider Denver to be the Colorado image. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other end of the planet, someone who is from New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the very first thing that comes that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff wrote the track for Johnny Cash but Denver recognized its potential the moment he heard it for the first time. After performing the song in Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver made a recording a few days afterward.
